Probabilistic Reasoning with an Enzyme-Driven DNA Device

چکیده
A b s t r a c t . We present a biomolecular probabilistic model driven by the action of a DNA toolbox made of a set of DNA templates and enzymes that is able to perform Bayesian inference. The model will take singlestranded DNA as input data, representing the presence or absence of a specific molecular signal (the evidence). The program logic uses different DNA templates and their relative concentration ratios to encode the prior probability of a disease and the conditional probability of a signal given the disease. When the input and program molecules interact, an enzyme-driven cascade of reactions (DNA polymerase extension, nicking and degradation) is triggered, producing a different pair of single-stranded DNA species. Once the system reaches equilibrium, the ratio between the output species will represent the application of Bayes’ law: the conditional probability of the disease given the signal. In other words, a qualitative diagnosis plus a quantitative degree of belief in that diagnosis. Thanks to the inherent amplification capability of this DNA toolbox, the resulting system will be able to to scale up (with longer cascades and thus more input signals) a Bayesian biosensor that we designed previously.

Load-Frequency Control: a GA based Bayesian Networks Multi-agent System
Bayesian Networks (BN) provides a robust probabilistic method of reasoning under uncertainty. They have been successfully applied in a variety of real-world tasks but they have received little attention in the area of load-frequency control (LFC). In practice, LFC systems use proportional-integral controllers. However since these controllers are designed using a linear model, the nonlinearities...
متن کاملAn Indoor Positioning System Based on Wi-Fi for Energy Management in Smart Buildings
To offer indoor services to occupants in the context of smart buildings, it is necessary to consider information concerning to the identity and location of the occupants. This paper proposes an indoor positioning system (IPS) based on Wi-Fi fingerprint and K-nearest neighbors (KNN) method. The positioning of a mobile device (MD) using Wi-Fi technology involves online and offline phases. In this...
متن کاملInstantiation to Support the Integration of Logical and Probabilistic Knowledge
Integrating the expressive power of first-order logic with the ability of probabilistic reasoning of Bayesian networks has attracted the interest of many researchers for decades. We present an approach to integration that translates logical knowledge into Bayesian networks and uses Bayesian network composition to build a uniform representation that supports both logical and probabilistic reason...
متن کاملA ligand predication tool based on modeling and reasoning with imprecise probabilistic knowledge
Ligand prediction has been driven by a fundamental desire to understand more about how biomolecules recognize their ligands and by the commercial imperative to develop new drugs. Most of the current available software systems are very complex and time-consuming to use. Therefore, developing simple and efficient tools to perform initial screening of interesting compounds is an appealing idea. In...
متن کاملExplicit Reasoning over End-to-End Neural Architectures for Visual Question Answering
Many vision and language tasks require commonsense reasoning beyond data-driven image and natural language processing. Here we adopt Visual Question Answering (VQA) as an example task, where a system is expected to answer a question in natural language about an image. Current state-ofthe-art systems attempted to solve the task using deep neural architectures and achieved promising performance. ...
